How to Screen Record on Android (Built-In, No App Needed)

To screen record on Android, swipe down twice to open Quick Settings, tap the Screen Record tile, then tap Start. On most modern Android phones (Android 11+) this is built in — no app download required. The recording saves to your Gallery or Photos app. Just need a still image? See how to screenshot on Android.

Standard method (Android 11+)

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen twice to open Quick Settings.
  2. Tap Screen Record (a circle-in-a-ring icon). If you don’t see it, swipe left for more tiles, or tap the pencil/edit icon to add it.
  3. Choose audio: Media, Microphone, or None.
  4. Tap Start. A countdown begins.
  5. Stop by swiping down and tapping the recording notification, or the Stop in the floating bar.

Samsung (One UI)

  1. Swipe down twice → tap Screen recorder (or add it via the edit/pencil menu).
  2. Pick sound source (Media sounds, Mic, or None).
