How to Take a Screenshot on iPhone (All Models)

To screenshot an iPhone with Face ID, press the Side button and Volume Up at the same time, then release both quickly. On iPhones with a Home button, press the Side button and Home button together. The screen flashes and a thumbnail appears in the corner. On Android? See how to screenshot on Android instead.

Face ID models (iPhone X and newer)

  1. Press and release the Side button (right) and Volume Up (left) at the same time.
  2. Release both immediately — holding too long triggers Emergency SOS or the power slider.
  3. Tap the thumbnail that appears to edit, or swipe it left to dismiss.

Touch ID models (iPhone 8 and earlier, plus SE)

  1. Press the Side/Top button and the Home button simultaneously.
  2. Release both. The screenshot saves to Photos.

FAQ

Where do iPhone screenshots go?

They save to the Photos app in the Screenshots album.

How do I screenshot without using buttons?

Enable Back Tap (above), or use AssistiveTouch (Settings → Accessibility → Touch → AssistiveTouch → customize a tap to Screenshot).

My buttons won’t take a screenshot — why?

Check that both buttons are pressed at the same instant. If the power-off screen appears, you held the Side button too long.
